BRUSSELS, 10/11/2009 – POLICY MEETING FOR THE SHUR PROJECT “HUMAN RIGHTS IN CONFLICT: THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY” PDF Print E-mail
The meeting is to present to the policy community of Brussels the main results of the SHUR research project: “Human Rights in Conflict: the Role of Civil Society”.

In partnership with LUISS University, Italy, the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, the University of Marburg, Germany, Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, France, Lunaria, Italy, and the International Peace Research Institute, Norway, the EPLO has produced a three-year duration study (2006-09) on the role of civil society in ethno-political conflicts and in particular with regard to Human Rights, as well as the potential complimentary link between civil society and EU actors. To identify the various types of civil society action in conflict situations with reference to Human Rights, four cases, namely, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus, Turkey-Kurds and Israel-Palestine, are examined and subsequently policy guidelines tailored to governmental and non-governmental intervention are presented.

The meeting will be held on 10 November 2009, 15.00, at the European Parliament, Room A1E1.
